When we tell people that we are building an EarthShip most of the time they respond an Earth What??? A home made from recycled human resources, such as tires, plastic bottles, shredded paper, glass bottles, are used in the construction of our home. Our home catches it's own water and recycles it 4 times, grows it's own food, heats and cools without a furnace or air conditioner, and makes it's own power. It's a great way to REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE.
In order for a home to be considered an Earthship styled home it has to have the following 6 Earthship Principles:
1. Thermal/ Solar Heating and Cooling
2. Solar & Wind Electricity
3. Contained Sewage Treatment
4. Building with Natural & Recycled Materials
5. Water Harvesting
6.Food Production
We did not buy plans from Michael Reynolds. So the design you see in our Earthship style home is our own. We took a year to read all the books we could get our hands on and watch all the videos we could. We would say that our home in an Earthship Hybrid. It is a combination of the old style Earthship designs and the new Global Model put together with a few new innovative idea's that us Severin's have incorporated. Alot of these new ideas have never been put in a Earthship before and so will be exciting to see how our deisgn holds up to the 4 season's that we have here in Southern Missouri.
The following are articles and videos shows why building an EarthShip is important not only to help save the planet but also so you can survive without needing the big companies to keep you a float.

We hired the #Earthship crew, and Michael Reynolds himself, from New Mexico to come build the house. With them came another 30 to 35 volunteers who camped on-site. It was an amazing experience. Eight hundred tires were pounded and stacked by the end of the fourth day. Pounding tires isn’t the easiest job, but it sure is easier with a giant crew.
