April of last year we bought 15 acres that is 10 miles north of West Plains, Missouri. It is heavily wooded with 495 feet of road frontage. This is a county road that is not traveled very often. All the county roads in Howell county are gravel. You will not find many luxury vehicles traveling on these roads. Mostly trucks rule the roads around here. In July we went camping in a tent on our property on the hottest week ever. It was 104 degrees that week. If you add in the heat index it was more like 110 degrees. As we were watching the weather before we came down this type of weather was not expected. Needless to say we did not last long in these temperatures. We toughed it out for two nights before calling it quits. Where you see our truck is the point of entry for our camping spot. We had thought that this would be our driveway. Upon further inspection we decided to move it up the road a bit more.
What we learned on this adventure is that we have really kind neighbors. We had the opportunity to get to know Mr. & Mrs. Robert Jones a little more. We found out that the county fair is actually located in West Plains. The fair was up and running when we had visited. Even though it was hot our neighbors told us that the normal temperatures are not that hot. Usually around 90 degrees for a average high. And we learned about chiggers. And that is all I will say about that. LOL.
The next adventure will lead us to putting in a driveway that will need a culvert, getting a house address, putting up a mailbox, clearing the trees for the garage and our new home.
